Weathered by Philden Showcase #34

With the warmer weather now upon us in sunny Queensland, it seems that weathering season is over for another year. Having just finished weathering the last of a fellow modeler's collection that I was helping him to sell, the air compressor downstairs in my garage has fallen quiet once more. I have no more models to weather for now. Until the weather becomes more milder and I find some more second-hand models to buy, repair and weather, it looks like I have the rest of the year to put my modelling time towards some projects for my own benefit.

So, without further ado, here is a sample of the final batch of weathered models that are now available for sale through my Philden Model Railway eBay shop, (links below), starting with the above Branchline Trains AAR 40'-foot box car lettered and weathered for the Detroit, Toledo & Shore Line Railroad.

The fading to the paintwork and the rust spots breaking out along the rivet seams came up a treat.

This Santa Fe stock car has been hard at work, and the rust spots are starting to show.

You can almost smell the cattle dung coming from this Southern Pacific stock car!

This shiny silver Western Pacific 40'-foot box car has finally lost its shine.

While these birds of a feather box car red versions have the paint peeling from the roof seams down.

Finally, this Santa Fe billboard box car looks like it is soldiering on nicely with just a light weathering.

I've just signed my final COA's for 2024. Let's see what time I get in 2025 to weather some more!

My thanks go out to all who have purchased models from me over the course of 2024, and for the kind words in your feedback. And of course, if you'd like to learn how to weather your own railway models like I have, then all of this came about solely because of writing 2023's bestselling book Model Railway Weathered Wonders. The book is available exclusively through leading hobby shops in Australia, or worldwide online through Blurb.

My highlight for the year would definitely have to be the lovely handwritten note I received in the mail from a lady thanking me for the pair of Auscision Models NSW RUB candy passenger cars she had bought for her husband. I think she got a thrill to see how excited her husband was to receive them. That stuff is priceless in a world where people are generally all too quick to criticize. So, thanks again! And hopefully I'll be back with some more weathered models in the not-to-distant future.

For my own record...
Models sold 272/319
